Cape Lookout Excursion

One of the many highlights of our family week was a trip back out to Cape Lookout and the beaches there. We planned this trip to be out on the tip of the island at low tide so we could find as many conk shells as possible and visit all the sand bars. We had SOO much fun - I can't emphasize that enough. This island is soo relaxing - you literally feel in the middle of nowhere. Quite literally, the next stop east of the island is Africa...

To get to the island, we took a 15 minute ferry (small Carolina Skiff) from Harker's Island. Then we had to pay a truck with a huge trailer (where we sat) to drive us out to the tip of the island. There are no homes on the island - only the lighthouse and a few WWII remains (which we need to explore one day).

This is actually the return trip (can't get my pictures in order) - Abby is buck naked in my lap. She had sand EVERYWHERE and we had to do some triage work on her.

Abby playing in the sand.

Carter, Xavey, Matthew and Preston playing in one of the huge pools of water. It was absolutely perfect for exploring, swimming and digging.

All the cousins exploring (well we left Benjamin at home to explore a nap).

Here we all are. Chrissy was home - she was about 11 weeks pregnant and knew it wouldn't be a good trip for her to take. Benjamin also stayed home with Grandma to nap.
Bill at our umbrella.

Carter holding up a starfish the kids found and brought home. Since they didn't keep him in water, he didn't survive long after being home.

Awesome picture Corinne took of the boys and the lighthouse in the way background.
It was an awesome day. Can't wait to go back next year!
